How to move around in Florence

Dear Friends,

Today's article is here to help all those who establish their self in Florence for their holiday in Tuscany or who simply wish to visit Florence for a day as they discover from another location in the Tuscan countryside the beauties of our region.

The first thing that you have to keep in mind if you are visiting Florence with a car is the numerous pedestrian areas in the historic center of the city. Enter in this zone imply directly a lot of traffic. So be careful!

If therefore your intention is to reach Florence by car or rent a car once you have arrived there, I will recommend you to look in the first place for a car park outside the ZTL and leave your car.

Florence does not have many parking spaces. However, the council has created a website addressed to visitors who want to visit and explains where the main car parks are located in the city of Florence.

If your hotel is in the center of Florence, it may have its own parking. Only in this case you can go with the car in ZTL parts (pedestrian zones) once the hotel has received the registration of your car to the local police.

Renting bikes or scooters are equally interesting for Florence and around cities and places of the area possibilities. There are numerous companies that are dedicated to it, I indicate for example this website where you can find motorcycle and bicycle rental: http://www.alinarirental.com/

Public transports such as buses are another good alternative. The company that managed public transport is the ATAF and unfortunately does not have a page in Castilian. You can visit the Italian section where information about timetables and routes is provided: ATAF.

The Taxi is another option for getting around Florence. Still, because this sector is not liberalized, there are few taxis in Florence. To find them you have to go to the stops or phone call. Compared to Spain, they are quite expensive.

The last alternative is to travel by foot. Since the historical center of the city is not very large and because every corner of Florence deserves to be known, this is probably the best option for getting around Florence.

As always I hope this information is a help for your holiday in Florence and Tuscany.

Kind regards,

Giorgio Toscano
